Mummy's Story of My Birth

14th February 2012

I woke up at 2am on the morning of 14th February knowing you were on the way, I was so excited to finally meet you. I shook Daddy to tell him I was having surges and he told me to go back to sleep and he would make me a big breakfast in the morning!

I walked around for a little while and then got in the bath to relax and listen to some calming music during my surges. As they started to get closer together and more intense I woke up Daddy and told him to get dressed.

We drove the short distance to hospital at 6a.m.. When we arrived at hospital I was examined and was already 6cm dilated. This meant things were quite far along so I was able to get straight into the birthing pool.

Daddy set up the music speakers to start playing relaxing music and I got into the pool. I was very calm and relaxed and it felt a bit like being at the spa.

The time went very quickly as I relaxed and Daddy kept giving me Lucozade Sport drinks for energy.

At about 10a.m. I started breathing down to birth you. It took about an hour until you arrived, it was very peaceful and we were working together.  You were born underwater in the birthing pool at 11.04a.m.. My Valentines baby - you came out with your eyes wide open, very alert and totally relaxed. You were the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen and Daddy and I cried with happiness as I sat on the steps of the birthing pool cradling you in my arms.

The two lovely midwives who had been with us during your birth wrapped you in a towel, and we had to unwrap you to find out if you were a girl or a boy...you were a girl. Our beautiful darling daughter.

We sat by the pool and decided to call you Florence, our blossoming girl. You had entered our life in the most peaceful and beautiful way, and that day you changed our lives forever. We had never known such love.
